Facebook just got clobbered with a record $5 billion penalty over the Cambridge Analytica data breach
Facebook will pay a fine of $ 55 million as a solution to a lawsuit over controversial face recognition technology. This amount is about Rs 82 billion in Pakistani rupees. The lawsuit began with tagging and identifying people by name on Facebook, which is still controversial in many European countries.
Following the advent of the technology on social media platforms, citizens of the US state of Illinois filed a lawsuit on Facebook because it violates certain laws that protect people's identity. The case has been ongoing since 2015, with the final result now coming out.

Illinois citizens said in the petition that only the face can be identified by the police, otherwise no one else has that right.

The case was reopened in 2018, and the US Supreme Court this month rejected the appeal for a review by Facebook.

The case also involved a thousand engineers in the state who were or are still involved in many secret projects.

The US court also asked Facebook the interesting question of explaining the practical benefits of a face recognition option that Facebook could not satisfy.

It should be noted that uniforms of US police personnel are mounted on cameras, but in some US cities this practice is also illegal because of local laws.

Now Facebook will pay $ 55 million to resolve the dispute.
